Thanks to the many SIS parents who took time in joining the SIS Year-end Celebration last June 10, 2009. Please come more so often whenever we invite you and even if there is no program or celebration going on. Your presence may boost the parent-teacher collaborative effort in student learning. In addition, you also get some updates just like the SIS Saraburi Campus, and the visit of Dr. Sutham Cheurprakobkit, Professor of Criminal Justice at the Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, GA, USA.
SIS wishes to thank Dr. Sutham for his unselfish service by being the guest speaker for the Year-End Celebration of the SIS last Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Dr. Sutham is originally from the City of Angels (Bangkok). It was indeed a pleasure to have Dr. Sutham grace the SIS Year-end Celebration.
In his Year-end Celebration message, Dr. Sutham emphasized insightful points such as: Learn as much as you can; Climb the highest; If you fail try and try and try again; Always do the best since not all have the opportunity; and Don’t get satisfied with what you are now.
Dr. Sutham’s Highlights. Through a highly competitive screening of the Police Cadet Academy, Dr. Sutham was among the most fortunate to be chosen as one of the select young Thais. He went through the rigors of tough training and succeeded with flying colors. Eventually, he worked as a Police Officer and was promoted to Police Captain. At age 32, he was awarded a rare scholarship by the Thai government to study in Texas, USA for his M.A. in Criminal Justice.
After his Texas graduation, he then taught at the Police Cadet Academy, his Alma Mater, in Thailand. He served there for a few years and then decided to pursue his doctoral degree in Birmingham, Alabama. He got his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and taught in a couple of universities in Texas and Georgia.
Currently, he serves as Professor of Criminal Justice at the Kennesaw State University specifically in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice. One of the highlights of his career was in 2004 when his university named him as the Research Professor of the Year. With his 16 years of successful professorial work in the USA, Dr. Sutham may be considered as one of the “Who’s Who” among the Thais or Asians in the USA especially in his area of expertise on Criminal Justice. Dr. Sutham is truly, indeed, a Pride of and an Inspiration to Siam International School and Thailand in general. SIS has requested Dr. Sutham to be its Senior Adviser and honorary Board member. Dr. Sutham may be our link for student-exchange program and student education tours in the USA.
The SIS-Saraburi Campus is undergoing massive renovation and cleanup under the leadership of Ajarn Prasit and Dr. Phakdee with our faithful and hard-working crew members from SIS Rangsit-Nakonnayok. Khun Rat (SIS owner) and Dr. Nattarat (“IMAT” owner) are very pleased to see this new project move forward. Very soon a big sign board in front of the “IMAT” will be set up: SIAM INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL- SARABURI CAMPUS. If all things will be favorable, the first day of school will be on August 25, 2009 with big discount for the pioneer students called the SIS JUBILEE ANNIVERSARY DISCOUNT. Best wishes!
