Our student body comes from sixteen nationalities such as: Thai, Indian, German, New Zealander, British, Pakistani, Chinese, American, Swedish, Taiwanese, Filipino, Singaporean, Malaysian, Japanese, Korean, and French. With small class sizes, SIS has attracted more and more parents. Intending to offer the best, SIS aims to increase foreign students for more international flavor. Currently, the foreign students comprise 23% of the student population for English language immersion and to unearth gold mines of cultural/natural values.
With several companies patronizing SIS such as the Asian Institute of Technology, Honda, and other companies, the school faces a more gigantic task. To meet the high expectation, SIS heightens its thrust in hiring highly qualified teachers who are truly caring and loving with proven successful track records in sharing customer-delight values. In addition, SIS teachers are multicultural coming from various countries such as: China, UK, Australia, USA, Canada, Philippines, Russia, Thailand, Ghana, and Lebanon. In the future, SIS will strive to help all teachers get their MA degrees.
Considering the sixteen nationalities, SIS has recognized its great potential as regards the development of a positive value system. With the rich cultural mix and perspectives, students have the chance to nurture multiculturalism. This concept carries a value-added flavor of acceptance, respect, and tolerance for others. Further, it implies that talents and intelligences have been dispersed by the Intelligent Designer (Most Powerful Spirit) upon all races and colors. The color of the skin doesn’t determine quality. Look at Tiger Woods & Vanessa Mae!
If we can teach our students/children to respect all colors, then we have taught our students/children to respect human dignity and to love all mankind. Our children must walk with heads held high regardless of the color of their skin. This point presupposes that we and our students must avoid racism or reverse racism. With this, we can promote peace, harmony, relationship, values, and true education. By true education, we mean “balanced” as promoted by the MOE. One prolific writer has noted that a balanced and true education reflects harmony in nurturing the mental, social, physical, and spiritual aspects of the students.
Hence, a great non-sectarian school for the 21st century must integrate values in the curriculum and life on the campus. This implies that SIS must integrate in the classes the good sides of life, culture, and whatever affiliations or persuasions. Otherwise, our students may graduate with knowledge but lack wisdom and devoid of morality. For example: The modern textbooks in science talk about evolution. Evolution, which theory can be proven as false, may appear as truth to the young minds. To balance, the students must be reminded of another theory that we don’t come from monkeys but by the act of an Intelligent Designer or the Ultimate Spirit.
Kindest regards,
RN & ATL
